Research Interests

Michelle Carro joined the UNLV Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program as the Associate Director of Clinical Training in 2004.  Her position is unique within the department in that she is fully devoted to the coordination and oversight of doctoral students' clinical, or practicum, competency development. To that end, Dr. Carro's duties are centered on teaching clinical courses, providing clinical supervision and overseeing practicum training assignments. Currently she teaches assessment of children, clinical supervision, and practicum seminar.  She participates in the governance of a department-based community mental health training center and coordinates the UNLV Psychological Assessment and Testing Clinic, a sliding-scale training clinic where doctoral students provide psychological assessment services to the community under her supervision.  Further, she serves as a liaison between the department and community of professional psychologists in southern Nevada.  She works to oversee and develop diverse practicum training opportunities for students. These currently include (but are not limited to) an outpatient community mental health center housed on campus, an inpatient child and adolescent hospital, a juvenile detention center, several neuropsychology private practices (adult and pediatric), and a university counseling center.  [Click here for a more comprehensive list of representative practicum sites.]

Clinical Interests and Professional Activities

Dr. Carro has strong generalist clinical training with particular interests in children, families, and psychological assessment of attention deficit disorders, learning disabilities and other neurodevelopmental or acquired emotional, cognitive and behavioral impairments in children and adults. She is also devoted to professional service.  As an active member of the Nevada State Psychological Association, she has served as the Public Education Coordinator, Legislative Committee Chair, Southern Region President, and Executive Board President for two terms. She is currently Co-chair of the Nevada State Psychological Association Task Force to Develop a Pre-Doctoral Internship Consortium.  She was honored by the association for "Outstanding Advocate for Psychology" in 2004 and 2008. She has also served the state psychology licensing board as an examiner and test-item developer. As Associate Director of Clinical Training, Dr. Carro is committed to applying her clinical and professional advocacy experiences to develop and enrich the practical training experience for each clinical graduate student.  Doctoral students seek and obtain highly individualized attention from Dr. Carro in this regard.

Dr. Carro received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Vermont in 1997. She has worked in the Las Vegas community as a practicing psychologist since 1999.
